The Key to Powerful Speaking:
Why Mastering the Craft is Essential
When Diana entered our first program, she was present but didn’t say a word.
Yet, when we introduced the opportunity to join our 6-month Freestyle Speaker Program, she was among the first to say yes!
Diana had a program she believed in, and she knew that to fill it, she needed to master the art of speaking and presenting. But here’s what many don’t realize: speaking and storytelling are crafts. They require structure, technique, and consistent practice to be truly effective.
Once amerced in our program, we watched Diana become a confident speaker and presenter. But it wasn’t just because of our amazing training (shameless plug) but because of one essential factor: PDR.
Speaking is a Skill That Must Be Mastered
Many people assume that great speakers are just naturally gifted. But the truth is, public speaking and storytelling follow a structure, a rhythm and flow that must be developed and refined. Like any craft, becoming an effective speaker requires learning the right techniques and committing to consistent practice.
What is PDR?
PDR stands for Practice, Drill, and Rehearse.
The greatest gift I ever received from my own coach was the opportunity to practice regularly and receive immediate feedback. We built the Freestyle Speaker Program around this same principle. The only difference? Our students don’t have to board a plane or incur travel expenses to get the needed practice.
Why Commitment to Practice Matters
Diana made the most of her opportunity. She consistently dropped weekly videos in our practice community, where she received real-time feedback from her fellow Super Achievers. With each round of feedback, she refined her delivery, strengthened her storytelling skills, and built confidence in her ability to communicate powerfully.
The result?
At the end of our program, Diana launched her first webinar. She used storytelling to craft compelling connection posts and Facebook Lives to create engaging videos. Her ability to connect and engage with others allowed her to build a tribe of unique clients.
The Takeaway? Growth Comes from Action
Confidence doesn’t come from simply knowing what to do—it comes from doing it. The best speakers don’t just rely on talent; they commit to mastering the craft, refining their message, and embracing feedback.
