I had the privilege of helping a friend clean her kitchen. We went through all her cupboards and if you can imagine, she has been living in her home for a number of years, and we all have a tendency to accumulate stuff. We emptied every cupboard we emptied the fridge and we purged we got rid of stuff. When we were finished, what was really interesting is that the whole space in the kitchen felt lighter. You could feel a shift in the energy, a shift that created ease in the space.
One of the things I started thinking about and I asked her was how much time and energy was spent moving things and looking for things and avoiding things, because to get to the pot you need to cook with you need to move things out of the way? What was really interesting, we realized that at times she didn’t cook because she couldn’t get to the pot. At other times, there were duplicate purchases because she was unable to see everything she had in the cupboard.
We really started to look at the impact of clutter. The impact of extra baggage. The impact of how the extra STUFF pulls the energy from you. Everything the fridge or cupboard was open and she had to go look for something there was always a dread that sucked out her energy because it was challenging and took extra time and effort. The realization was, that when you clear things out there is this new flow of energy this new space, this new life that comes in that makes things easy.
For me there is always a parallel in terms of my environment and my mind. When we hold onto things like bad feelings, unresolved issues, anything negative it is taking extra energy from our lives and our opportunity to create. If we are willing to purge and let things go and get things resolved, we free ourselves up for newness.
I have learned that over the years I am required to create a clearing in my world if I want to receive new things. What that means is I am required to get rid of that which does not serve me, that which has been concluded, that which is resolved, and my extra baggage. I need to let it go so I can create the space for new opportunities and new life, new events.
You can always tell my internal state of mind by my external environment. If my office is a mess it often reflects that I am overwhelmed. If you look in my journal there are days where it is disorganized, there’s days where there is nothing there, and that’s a reflection of what’s going on internally.
So, me ask for you is to ask yourself Is your Environment taking away from you? Is it sucking your energy because you are distracted by what’s in it? Or is your environment empowering you and adding to your creativity?
