“There are two parts to influence: First, influence is powerful; and second, influence is subtle. You wouldn’t let someone push you off course, but you might let someone nudge you off course and not even realize it.” – Jim Rohn

What comes to mind when you hear the word INFLUENCE?

Your influences are the people, books, movies and environments that are shaping your thoughts, impacting your feelings and determining the actions you consciously and unconsciously take. The result can be positive and uplifting or negative and the source of much frustration.

Consider that with every interaction, conversation and action taken,  you have the potential to influence yourself, other people.

Watch my video to learn what’s possible when you shift your perspective and embrace the power of Influence!

How we perceive the world around us directly influences everything we do. Whether we frame an event as positive or negative can directly influence the outcome of that event.

Influence can be defined as, “The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.”  However, the most important person you must first influence is the person you see when you look in the mirror.

Here are 3 simple steps you can follow to manage how you perceive an event or situation when ‘life comes down your street’:

1- An Event Happens..

What occurred and where will you focus? Remember that everything in life can be perceived as positive or negative. You get to choose where you focus. “What’s positive about this?’

2- Lessons Are Everywhere. It’s up to you to find them.

When you choose to view all events as positive, you will begin to see the gift, lesson, or opportunity. Shifting how you perceive the event will begin to shift your energy and move you from feeling like a victim.

3- Focus on the solution.

Use your self-talk to re-frame the event and begin to ask yourself solution-focused questions. Learning to ask yourself solution-focused questions will continue to help you shift your energy and ultimately your focus from poor me or what’s wrong to exploring new possibilities and creating new opportunities.

“Whether you flounder or flourish is always in your hands – you are the single biggest influence in your life. Your journey begins with a choice to get up, step out, and live fully.” – Oprah Winfrey
