“Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state of being.” – J. Stanford
When you hear the word “healthy” what comes to mind?
We live in a world where good health is often equated with a certain kind of appearance. Some people believe health is what is attained once you’ve cut out carbs, or giving up processed sugars. While others may feel that they’re healthy if they are absent from illness.
Watch this week’s video to learn how to create a strong foundation of well being when you focus on 3 key areas.
I believe good health is more than just exercise and diet. It is also the mental attitude you have about yourself. Health is a state of complete physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
The 3 key areas to consider in order to achieve optimal health and well-being are: Health, Fitness and Wellness.
Understanding the distinction between your health, fitness and wellness and how they interact can impact your business, finances and your sense of self.
1- Health
When we think about health, we are conditioned to focus on what we see: our weight or physical appearance. However, what is happening inside is the true measure of health. Internal health is the body’s engine. Our body thrives when it consistently gets 90 essential nutrients, proper hydration and adequate sleep. It is when quality nutrition is combined with physical activity that you are able to maintain overall good health.
2- Physical Fitness
This is the movement of your body combined with an adequate amount of rest and recovery time. Characteristics of a fit person include balance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance as well as core and muscle strength.
3- Wellness
Wellness has multiple parts which include the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of our lives. All of these influence each other and affect our sense of well-being.
Achieving wellness is about living a life of personal responsibility. It is our ability to manage daily stressors and to remain conscious of how our choices impact our lifestyle. It is a holistic approach to life. It is to navigate and find harmony between work, relationships, play, recreation, and personal time. Although these parts are interconnected, each area requires quality time, focused energy and continuous nurturing.
