This week I wanted talk about “Power”. I think Power is probably one of the most interesting words because I think people are afraid of it and people don’t like to say they have it, but what’s interesting is we all have power.
One of the things I’ve learned over the years is if you don’t understand the power you have you are more than likely to abuse it.
There are different types of power. There is power over or positional power, which means that power is given to you through title, position or a job. This type of power is usually associated with conflict.
The power I really want to talk about is not the positional power but the power that comes from within you. Why that power is so important is because once you understand it and cultivate it, it is the one source of power that no one can take away from you. It is the power that you quietly walk with. It is felt in your confidence, in your posture and in your way of being. It is felt though your energy.
So what is this power? This is the power that is created as you move from failure to success. Imagine if you will, that when you are in a place that may be your deepest and darkest, or in a place where you are lacking confidence because things are new and you don’t think that you can do something, in many ways you are feeling somewhat powerless. As you learn and grow and you overcome that feeling of ‘I Can’t’ and move to ‘I Can’, you move from darkness to light, you learn lessons and you pick up the experience the knowledge. It is that transformation that creates a sense of internal power.
It’s an internal knowing of your capacity to win in an area. The more wins you have, the more experiences you have, and the more you move from failure to success, the more internal power is grown within you.
Internal power is a confidence, it’s a knowing, its a belief in self. It is your ability to say “I got this”. It is your ability to know that your word is law, and when you say something is going to be done, you KNOW you are going to do it. People who have that power walk a certain way, they carry themselves a certain way and they have a level of confidence that is felt. You often feel them before you see them. They are people that you can count on.
So when I’m talking about power, I’m not talking about positional power because positional power can always be taken. It’s not true power, it is perceived power. I’m talking about that internal power that only you can cultivate as you rise from the ashes, as you go from coal to diamond, and as you move through the heat.
As you continually experience successes that the power within you begins to grow and create the next best version of you.
