Did you know you only have 3 seconds to make a first impression? In other words, when you walk into a room and people take a look at you, in a split second they make a decision of who you are, how successful you are, and possibly whether they like you or not and whether or not they are going to approach you.
The first impression I am referring to is made through how you are dressed, how you carry yourself, your body language, your posture and your energy. Have you ever watched someone walk into a room and you’re instantly attracted to them? You see them and your mind starts racing. What do they do? How did they achieve their success? Why do they look so confident?
Likewise you may have watched someone walk into a room, and you look at their body language and wonder what’s going on with them. Maybe they’re mousey or maybe you just see their lack of confidence. Your brain takes snap shot images and assumptions in that moment.
I have a concept called The Brand Called You. It is really the understanding that people actually purchase you in a certain way before you open your mouth. They begin to think about you, and create beliefs about your success, what you do, and how confident you are, before you ever open your mouth.
My question for you is, what does your brand say about you? Does it say that you’re tired and have too much on your plate? Does it say that you’re overwhelmed? Does your brand say that your health is in such a place, that you’re not sure you’ll be here tomorrow? Does it say that you’re excited? When you walk in a room do you exude confidence, power, success and energy?
I began to realize that when we think of branding, we often think of slogans, logo’s and taglines, but we don’t think of us… me, myself, and I. Although we don’t normally think of our brand this way, I want you to consider that before someone is open to learning about your company, finding out what your slogan is, finding out about your tagline, and learning about your products and services, they first need to buy you. Often times a person’s willingness to approach you and connect with you, is based on that first 3 second impression.
Why is the Brand Called You so important? It’s because I and You are synonymous with our name and our word. I and You are synonymous with our body language, our posture, and our energy. It is what makes up who we are.
So, what IS your brand saying about you? Are you paying attention?
Think about it, let me know your thoughts.
