Are you Living your Life by Design or Default?

Listen to the Podcast here.

Imagine if you will, that we can all design our life. To me, this means living life on your terms, and doing the things that you dream of doing.

The question is, how do you do that?

Many years ago I went through a period of time in my life where I didn’t go anywhere. I was working, working, working without gaining any traction and I had gotten to warn down that I  stopped dreaming. I looked up one day and realized that my life wasn’t anything I wanted it to be and things truly needed to change. That was the year I read the book “The Power of Focus”.

One of the things the author asked us to do was to write down 100 goals. When I first thought of writing 100 goals I was paralyzed. How could I come up with that many goals when I was struggling to set one goal? That was how limited my dreaming had become.

I started to write and I began to realize that if I set 10 goals in 10 different categories, 100 goals was achievable. Much to my surprise, I ended up writing 110 goals.

What was really interesting to me, was that as I wrote the goals I got excited about dreaming again. I got excited about what was possible. I set a recreation goal to go to St. Lucia. I set finance goals and personal growth goals. I realized that the goals I was setting were going to give me the lifestyle I was looking for.

My goals would slowly change my life so I would eventually be living the lifestyle I wanted.

After my goals were written, I rolled up my sleeves and I started on my journey. I got out my calendar and began putting goals to dates. I broke my goals down to quarterly targets and monthly targets. I scheduled the daily and weekly activities I would be required to do to reach my targets.  Very soon, my dreams changed. They moved from dreams to goals because I had a date, a time and how much it would take to create it. The more specific I got, the more achievable the goal became to me. Then I got into action.

SG4 Your dreams are your goals. Get into action and live the life you desire.

What surprised me was at the end of that year, I had accomplished about 75% of my goals. How it happened I’m not exactly sure, but this is what I believe; I believe that somewhere in my mind, I was attracting my goals. I was listening for people, things, events that could get me closer to my goals. I even received an invitation to St. Lucia from someone I had met just a few months earlier. Why? I believe that once I began to write things down and get specific, I was really designing my life, and began to live my life on purpose.

I truly believe that each and every one of us has the right and the responsibility to live a big bold juicy life. The only way to do that, is to become intentional, and begin to design it.

I ask each of you to begin to dream again. Write and schedule your goal, and go to work to attract them, create them, and have them come into existence. I truly believe the universe and people in your world, go to work to help you make it happen.

Have fun designing your life and living on purpose.
